Happy Friday!
I hope everyone had a good week. We have had an incredibly busy week filled with learning here in J3. In case you missed it, our article in the Huffington Post was a huge success, and was even featured by the founder and CEO of the Huffington Post, Ariana Huffington! If you are inspired to, stop by and leave a comment on a kind deed you carried out so the children can see that their idea is spreading forward!
I would like to extend a big thank you to Katharina Margetts (Sebastian's Mom) and Anna Zietek (Lilu's Mom) for serving as class parents this year. You will be hearing from the shortly regarding the UN Day breakfast.
Here are some notes on where we are in our learning and what is coming up.
Literacy:
At this point, all students have been assessed in Reading, Writing and Spelling so we have our targets and are moving full steam ahead towards becoming better readers and writers, or, we say in class, towards becoming Reading and Writing Rock Stars. Ask your child about the Literacy Cafe.
Math:
We have been working to develop strategies in addition and subtraction that will enable us to be more efficient Mathematicians with strong mental math skills. Next week, we will continue this work while also looking at "true and not true" statements for equations. As a note, we do not focus on the algorithm at this stage in math. Rather, we focus on developing strategies that will help to develop a deep understanding of numbers. This can be very new for many of us who were raised with algorithm only methodology; if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to ask!
Dates to Remember:
October 5: Cain's Arcade/Cardboard Challenge
October 11: Picture Day
October 14: NO YELLOW BUS SERVICE
October 18: UN Day
October21-22: No School
Have a great weekend,
Erin
